UVM Ranked Fourth Nationally and UNH 21st to Conclude 2022 Season

BOSTON – Following the most successful men’s soccer season for an America East squad in nearly ten years, Vermont was ranked fourth in the final United Soccer Coaches poll which was released on Tuesday evening. New Hampshire concluded the year ranked 21st overall.

USC National Rankings

The No. 4 ranking is the highest for UVM in program history. The Catamounts had a fall to remember, finishing the year 16-4-2 and going on an 11-game win streak during the season. They advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals with wins over Quinnipiac, SMU and UCLA. UVM’s run came just short of the College Cup as the team fell 2-1 to Syracuse, the eventual national champion.

UVM’s No. 4 ranking is tied for the second-highest year-end ranking in conference history, as UMBC finished the year fourth back in 2014. In 1994, Boston University was ranked No. 1 in the final poll of the season, which was released before the NCAA Tournament. This marks the first time since 2016 that the America East concluded the season with a pair of ranked teams, when Albany (17) and UMass Lowell (19) both finished in the top-20.

New Hampshire ended the season nationally ranked for the fifth time in the last six seasons and for the fourth straight year after going 15-4-1. It is the longest consecutive streak of finishing the year ranked for an America East school since Boston University concluded the year ranked five straight seasons, 1990-1994. The Wildcats also won an NCAA Tournament game for the fourth time in the last six years.

Overall, four different programs earned wins over teams ranked or receiving votes in the final USC Poll. In addition to UVM and UNH, Albany and UMBC also earned victories against top teams.
