Women’s #AEHoops Week 5: Maine & NJIT Conclude Week With Wins

BOSTON – Maine and NJIT both snapped four-game losing streaks on Sunday with strong victories, while Vermont saw its six-game win streak end at the buzzer against Duquesne this past weekend.
 
  • Vermont, winners of six straight, trailed Duquesne 56-54 in the final seconds on Saturday and got off a good look at a three in the final two seconds but it didn’t fall, dropping the Catamounts to a league-best 7-4 record.
  • NJIT played some lockdown defense on Sunday, holding Saint Peter’s to just 38 points on the way to a 42-38 victory.
  • Maine found its offense on Sunday, putting up its highest point total since 2019 with an 88-60 victory over Army.  
  • UMass Lowell secured its first win of the season by taking down Central Connecticut 60-47 on Wednesday.
  • Entering this week of action, UVM’s Catherine Gilwee is ranked second in the nation with 37 three-point field goals. She is also shooting a league best 48.1 percent from beyond the arc.
 
America East Links Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live!. The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19.
 
2022-23 Weekly Award Winners (Dec. 12)
Player of the Week
Ellen Hahne, UAlbany – Gr., Guard, Stockholm, Sweden
  • Averaged 19.0 points, 6.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 14-for-18 from the field in a 1-1 week.
  • Led UAlbany to a win over Dartmouth with 16 points, seven assists, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
  • Went 8-for-9 with 22 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals in a loss to Boston College.
  • This is Hahn’s second Women’s #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the 2022-23 season.  
 
Rookie of the Week
Jaycie Christopher, Maine – Fr., Guard, Skowhegan, Maine
  • Averaged 14.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in 1-1 week.
  • Posted a career-high 27 points with seven threes, seven rebounds and four assists in a win over Army.
  • This is Christopher’s first Women’s #AEHoops Rookie of the Week award.
