Women’s Basketball Opens Season Tonight

BOSTON, Mass. – Six teams open their 2022-23 campaign this evening as the America East women’s basketball season gets underway. There are a number of tough contests over the first week of the season, which are highlighted belwo.

Monday, Nov. 7
  • UMass Lowell challenges itself right out of the gate, facing a Boston College team which went 21-12 last year.
  • Defending regular season champion Maine travels to battle with James Madison, while NJIT makes the short trip to Rider.
 
Tuesday, Nov. 8
  • Coming off its best season in a decade, Vermont plays at No. 11 Indiana. The Hoosiers were picked third in the Big Ten preseason coaches’ poll.
 
Thursday, Nov. 10
  • UMBC takes its new-look roster to battle ACC foe Virginia, while Binghamton faces Army West Point, which went 16-13 last season.
 
Friday, Nov. 11
  • UMass Lowell squares off with No. 11 Indiana, while Vermont plays at Miami (OH).
  • Defending conference champion UAlbany begins its season by hosting Merrimack, while NJIT welcomes Lafayette.
 
Sunday, Nov. 13
  • UMBC faces city rival Loyola (Md.) while NJIT battles it out with Rutgers of the Big Ten. New Hampshire looks for state supremacy against Dartmouth, and UAlbany looks to claim the Albany Cup when it takes on Siena.
 
The 2022-23 season begins on November 7 with conference play starting on Dec. 29. Conference positioning will again prove key for the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs. Every round of the Jersey Mikes #AEPlayoffs will take place on the higher seed’s home court and earning home court advantage will prove crucial once again. 
 
The league champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship, where America East teams have won five games all time.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops home game on The AE on ESPN with all games airing on ESPN+ or ESPN3 domestically and AmericaEast.TV internationally.
