UAlbany and Stanford Advance to #AEFH Championship Game

Stanford continued its impressive tournament run, taking down top seed Maine 3-1 behind a hat trick from Haley Mossmer, while No. 2 seed UAlbany never trailed in a 2-1 victory over No. 6 New Hampshire in #AEFH Semifinal action on Friday.
 
Mossmer scored once in the in the first half and added two more in the second before a late goal by No. 1 seed Maine provided the 3-1 final. The Cardinal advance to their third championship game in the last four seasons. UAlbany scored just 11 minutes into the contest and never trailed as they outshot UNH 23-5 on the way to a 2-1 victory.
 
The Great Danes and Stanford will square off for the #AEFH Championship on Sunday at 12 p.m. Stanford is seeking its fifth championship while UAlbany looks for its first since 2018. The Championship will be broadcast on ESPN+.

 
Semifinal Recap
No. 5 Stanford 3, No. 1 Maine 1 
  • Following a scoreless first, Haley Mossmer gave Stanford a 1-0 lead at 19:54 on a beautiful assist by Molly Redgrove.
  • Mossmer made it 2-0 at 41:16 and then added a third goal seven minutes later for the impressive 3-0 advantage over the host Black Bears.
  • Maine finally broke through with 22 seconds remaining on a goal by Poppy Lambert on a penalty corner.
  • Freshmen goalkeepers Daisy Ford and Kendall Dowd combined to make five saves in net, with Ford earning the victory for Stanford.
 
No. 2 UAlbany 2, No. 6 New Hampshire 1
  • The Great Danes grabbed a 1-0 lead at 11:12 of the first quarter. Blanca Orsola fed Sophia Schoonmaker and she slipped it past Jemma Woods for the 1-0 lead.
  • Neither team was able to tally a goal in the second quarter, but New Hampshire evened it up just five minutes into the third on a goal by Molly McAteer.
  • Elaina Burchell gave UAlbany back the lead at 41:05 as she redirected a Blanca Orsola  shot from the top of the circle.
  • The Great Danes outshot UNH 2-1 over the final 15 minutes with both goalkeepers making impressive stops. Woods finished with 14 saves to lead the Wildcats.
