Smisdom Named Northeast Regional Player of the Year

GENEVA, N.Y. – Following an impressive sophomore season, UAlbany’s Alison Smisdom has been honored as the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Northeast Regional Player of the Year, as announced on Wednesday.

Smisdom started all 20 games in which she appeared for the Great Danes, leading the team with 39 points on 15 goals and nine assists. She was honored as the America East Midfielder of the Year at the end of the regular season and led UAlbany to the America East Championship. Smisdom followed that up by helping her team upset #4 Michigan in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Smisdom is first America East student-athlete since 2016 to be named Regional Player of the Year. Former Great Dane Paula Heuser claimed the award in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
