Women's Basketball 11/14/2022 1:00:00 PM Women’s #AEHoops Week 1: Four Teams Remain Unbeaten BOSTON, Mass. – The 2022-23 college basketball season is just a week old, but some America East women’s basketball programs have already made early statements. Looking Back Over the first week of the season, America East programs posted 11 victories, with four teams earning a pair of wins. Binghamton, Bryant, Maine and UAlbany enter the second week of the season undefeated. The Bearcats, Bulldogs and Great Danes are all 2-0 while the Black Bears are 1-0. Maine scored with just 1.4 seconds left against James Madison to earn a 60-58 victory. They were led by reigning Player of the Year Anne Simon, who posted 21 points and six rebounds. UAlbany took home the Albany Cup on Sunday with an impressive 64-57 victory over Siena behind 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Ellen Hahne. The Week Ahead There are 19 women’s basketball games scheduled this week. On Monday, Binghamton faces 2-0 Syracuse looking to upend the Orange, while Maine travels to face defending Atlantic-10 Champion UMass. Bryant puts its undefeated record on the line against Pittsburgh this Wednesday, while UAlbany faces Navy and UMass Lowell hosts Boston U. Vermont hosts Delaware on Friday, and the Bulldogs continue their Pennsylvania road trip with a contest against Penn State. On Saturday, five America East programs are home as NJIT, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell, UAlbany and Maine all seek to defend their home court. The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 19. 2022-23 Weekly Award Winners (Nov. 14) Player of the Week Ellen Hahne, UAlbany – Gr., Guard, Stockholm, Sweden Averaged 23.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steal per game in leading UAlbany to a pair of victories last week Put up 24 points, four rebounds and four assists with just one turnover in a win over Merrimack. Helped the Great Danes clinch the Albany Cup over Siena with 23 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in 36 minutes of action. This is Hahne’s first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor. Rookie of the Week Jadyn Weltz, Binghamton – Fr., Guard, Ontario, Canada Averaged 12.5 points, 5.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 steals in two Binghamton wins last week. Posted 10 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds and five steals in a win against Bloomsburg Had a 15-point, 6-assist performance against Army where she went 4-of-8 from three-point range (.500) and 7-of-8 from the free throw line (.875).
