Three-Peat! UMass Lowell Sweeps #AEXC Championships

KINGSVILLE, Md. – For the third straight year UMass Lowell swept the #AEXC Championships, using a pair of dominant performances on Saturday at Jefferson Mill Park.
 
The River Hawks are the first team to sweep three consecutive #AEXC Championships since Boston University from 1992-94. Visit #AEXC Championship Central for final results, recap and highlights. The men won with a score of 27, well ahead of second place Binghamton who had 79, while the women outpaced Binghamton, 67-38 points.
 
UMass Lowell’s Kenzie Doyle set a new Championship record in the 5k with her time of 16:19.20, breaking the record which Emily Mackay set year of 16:24.67, to claim the individual crown. Doyle earned All-Conference honors along with UMass Lowell teammate Izzy  Gising, Binghamton's Aziza Chigatayeva, Sophia Ryan, and Sydney Leitner, along with Kira Nolan from New Hampshire and Jane Leighton from Vermont. 
 
The River Hawks’ John Riley claimed the men’s title in 23:41.0, just edging out teammate Drew Everett who finished in 23:41.6. The two times are the second and third fastest in championship history.

The men’s All-Conference First Team was comprised of Riley, teammates Drew Everett, and Daniel Cosgrove, as well as Maine's Alec Troxell, Binghamton's Matt Cavaliere, and Josh Stone, and Andrew Crompton from Vermont.

Crompton also earned the conference’s Elite 18 award as the top finisher with the highest GPA. on the men's side. Crompton, a Vermont senior who finished fifth, carries a 4.0 GPA in microbiology. On the women's side, Sarah Ross, a UMass Lowell sophomore with a 4.0 GPA purusing plastics engineering.

Maine's Evan Thornton-Sherman earned Most Outstanding Rookie Honors with his finish in the men's race, while Sydney Leitner from Binghamton took home Most Outstanding Rookie Honors with her finish in the women's race, while UMass Lowell won Coaching Staff of the Year for both genders.
