AE Weekend Preview: Oct. 28-30

BOSTON – Binghamton Women’s Soccer claimed its first regular season championship since 2017 on Thursday night and secured the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament, while regular season champions could be added in field hockey and men’s soccer this coming weekend. Additionally, the cross country championship takes place on Saturday, with UMass Lowell looking to defend its two championships.

Cross Country
  • The 2022 #AEXC Championship is on Saturday in Maryland, with UMass Lowell entering as the reigning men’s and women’s champions. The New Hampshire women took second a year ago while the Binghamton men placed third as each seeks to upend the River Hawks. View Championship Central for links to live results and video.
Women’s Soccer
  • On a wild final night of the regular season, Binghamton clinched the outright regular season championship thanks to a victory, and a draw between UNH and UMass Lowell. The Wildcats led 1-0 going into the final minute, but the River Hawks scored in the last two seconds to earn the tie.
  • The #AEWSOC Tournament field is now set with first round action beginning on Sunday afternoon. No. 6 NJIT travels to face No. 3 Maine at 5 p.m. while No. 4 UMass Lowell hosts No. 5 UAlbany at 4 p.m. For a complete bracket and information visit the Tournament Central
Field Hockey
  • The field hockey regular season ends this weekend, with four conference games on Friday and three more on Sunday. Maine has clinched the top seed and at least a share of the Regular Season Championship with its 6-0 record, but could finish tied for first if it drops its final two contests.
  • Seeds 2-6 are still up in the air, though UAlbany, UMass Lowell and Vermont have all clinched berths in the field. That leaves California, Stanford, New Hampshire and UC Davis still in playoff contention entering the final weekend of the year, with only two of those teams reaching the Championship field. The complete schedule can be found here.
Men’s Soccer
  • The #AEMSOC Regular Season Championship could be decided today as No. 20 Vermont hosts No. 21 UNH at 7 p.m. The Wildcats can claim the regular season title outright with a victory and can earn at least a share with a tie.
  • Four teams have earned conference berths, with two more still available. If Bryant can upend Binghamton it would keep them in the hunt, while NJIT and UMass Lowell are currently on the outside with two points apiece, but victories over UMBC and UAlbany today would give them a real chance at qualifying for the championship field.
Volleyball
  • UMBC is a perfect 5-0 in conference play this year and has won 20 consecutive regular season matches. The Retrievers can clinch a berth in the conference tournament with a win over NJIT tonight.
  • Bryant and Binghamton are currently tied for second in the league standings at 4-2. The Bearcats play at UMBC on Sunday, while Bryant travels to face UNH.
