#AESD Season Underway as Three Programs Claim Awards

BOSTON – Six different programs got their 2022-23 seasons underway over the last three weeks and three had student-athletes earn weekly honors in the inaugural awards.
 
Vermont has already taken part in three meets, including the NJIT Invitational, which also featured host NJIT and UMBC. Binghamton, Bryant & VMI all opened their seasons this past weekend. 
 
Female Swimmer of the Week
Jackie House, Vermont – Fr., Freestyle, Madison, Wisc.
  • Won a total of six individual events and helped with three relay victories so far this season.
  • Started the season with three individual victories, at the home meet with Northeastern, in the 100 (52.32), 200 (1:53.37)and 500 freestyle (5:04.23). All three times are the fastest in the America East this season.

Male Swimmer of the Week
Tiago Asakawa, UMBC – Gr., Freestyle, Sumare, Brazil
  • Won both the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the NJIT Invitational, as well as two relays.
  • Member of UMBC's winning 200 and 400 freestyle relays squads. In the finale - the 400 yard free relay - Asakawa anchored and covered the final 100 yards in 45.72, more than two seconds better than St. Francis Brooklyn, which owned the lead after 300 yards.
 
Female Diver of the Week
Alicia Buteau, UMBC – Fr., Diving,
  • Opened the year by triumphing in the 3-meter diving event at the NJIT Invitational. She amassed 203.45 points, best amongst divers from UMBC, Vermont and St. Francis Brooklyn.
 
Male Diver of the Week
Ryan Cohn, Binghamton – Sr., Diving, Northbrook, Ill.
  • Swept both the men's one- and three-meter diving events, with scores of 271.35 and 266.03 at Canisius.
