#AEWSOC Week 8: Halfway Home in Conference Play

BOSTON – The #AEWSOC league slate hit the midway point over the weekend and Maine sits alone atop the standings as the league’s lone unbeaten team.
 
The Black Bears, who are seeking their first conference championship appearance since 2016, are 3-0-2 and have 11 points to claim first place in the standings. UAlbany sits in second at 3-1-1, 10 points followed by Binghamton and UMass Lowell tied for third (3-1).
 
Eight more conference games take place this weekend with four games on Thursday, Oct. 13 and four more on Sunday, Oct. 16.
The top six teams in the final #AEWSOC standings will qualify for this year’s America East Women’s Soccer Championship. Championship Central
 
2022 #AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 10
Offensive Player of the Week
Ioanna Papathedorou, UMass Lowell – So., Forward, Nea Erithraia, Greece
  • Scored twice in a 12-minute span of UMass Lowell’s 3-0 win over Bryant on Sunday.
  • Tallied the first two goals of the game.
  • This is Papathedorou’s second #AEWSOC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season and third of her career (9/6/22, 10/4/21).
Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Burgess, UMass Lowell – Jr., Goalkeeper, Mendon, Mass.
  • Stopped all eight shots she faced in Sunday’s 3-0 win over Bryant.
  • Six of her eight saves came in the first half, including one on a breakaway.
  • Has not allowed a goal in her last 203 minutes of action.
  • This is Burgess’ first Defensive Player of the Week honor of the season and second of her career (3/16/21).
Rookie of the Week
Briana Andreoli, NJIT – Fr., Forward, Hawthorne, N.J.
  • Scored her first career goal in NJIT’s 4-0 win over Delaware State on Saturday.
  • Scored just 17 seconds after entering the game
  • This is Andreoli’s first career #AEWSOC Rookie of the Week honor.
