#AEHoops Preview - Jan. 8; Women's Championship Rematch Set for Sunday

Four men's #AEHoops games are scheduled for Saturday along with a pair of women's conference games. One women's #AEHoops game will be played on Sunday.

Jan. 8 Men's Matchups
UAlbany at New Hampshire - 12 p.m. - ESPN3
  • Both teams dropped its league opener on Thursday.
  • The two teams have been dead even the last five seasons splitting the last 10 matchups.

Maine at Stony Brook - 2 p.m. - ESPN3
  • Maine is 0-1 in league play while Stony Brook is playing its league opener. 
  • The Seawolves were one of three #AEHoops teams to win eight non-conference games.
  • Stony Brook has won five of its last six games. It has also won 20 in a row vs. Maine.

NJIT at Binghamton - 4 p.m. - ESPN3
  • A matchup of 2-0 teams takes place in Vestal today.
  • Binghamton has wins over UAlbany and UMass Lowell and is 2-0 for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
  • NJIT has wins over UMass Lowell and Maine and has won five of its last seven overall.
  • The Highlanders' Miles Coleman (26.5 ppg) and the Bearcats' Jacob Falko (24 ppg) are the top two scorers in league play (min. 2 games).

UMass Lowell at UMBC - 5:30 p.m. - ESPN3
  • The two teams meet in a rematch of last year's #AEHoops semfinals in which UMass Lowell upset #1 UMBC to reach the championship game for the first time in program history.
  • UMBC is playing for the first time since Dec. 16 due to COVID-19 protocols.
  • UMass Lowell is seeking its first conference win after dropping its first two league games.

Women’s Matchups
NJIT at Binghamton – 2 p.m. – ESPN3
  • Binghamton is 4-1 all-time against NJIT, having won the previous four meetings.
  • This is the first matchup between the two teams as conference opponents.
  • NJIT has won three-straight games after opening conference play with wins over Maine and Stony Brook.
  • The Highlanders have won seven games – the most for the program since the 2016-17 season.
  • One of the wins was the team’s first-ever win over a Big Ten opponent after the Highlanders topped Wisconsin on the road in November.
  • Kenna Squier was named Player of the Week after a career-high 24 points against Maine.
  • Trinity Williams was named #AEHoops Rookie of the Week.
 
New Hampshire at UAlbany – 2 p.m. – ESPN3
  • UAlbany leads the all-time series 26-18 and has won the last three matchups, all of which took place in 2021.
  • The Great Danes have only lost one time to UNH at home.
  • Former UNH guard and current UAlbany head coach Colleen Mullen owns a 5-2 series record against New Hampshire.
  • The Great Danes have won three consecutive conference openers dating back to 2018-19.
  • New Hampshire is 0-1 in league play after dropping its conference opener to Vermont at home on Wednesday.
  • The Great Danes have the longest active win streak in the conference, having won their last four games.
  • They are 6-1 in their last seven games and is a perfect 6-0 at home.
 
Jan. 9 Women’s #AEHoops matchup
Stony Brook at Maine – 1 p.m. – ESPN+
  • The top-two teams in the preseason poll have gone a combined 57-12 in league games over the past two seasons.
  • Both teams advanced to the previous two #AEHoops championship games and the past four champions have been either Maine or Stony Brook.
  • The Black Bears have won three regular season titles in that span while the Seawolves captured one.
  • The Black Bears hold a 24-22 edge in the all-time series and have split the season series in each of the past two seasons.
  • The two split the regular-season series at Stony Brook last season before the Seawolves won the title at Memorial Gym.
  • Six of the last seven meetings in Maine have gone the Black Bears’ way.
  • The Seawolves’ last win at the Cross Insurance Center came on Jan. 26, 2014.
