Binghamton, NJIT Win Men's #AEHoops Openers

BOSTON – Conference play kicked off with a pair of games on Sunday. Binghamton and NJIT posted wins to start 1-0 in the #AEHoops standings.
 
#AEHoops Notes
  • Binghamton held UMass Lowell to 37 percent shooting en route to a 68-63 win on Sunday, its first in a league opener since the 2018-19 season.
  • Jacob Falko and Tyler Bertram each scored 20 points to pace the Bearcats.
  • NJIT shot 54 percent from the floor and came back from a second-half deficit to knock off Maine Sunday.
  • Miles Coleman contributed 23 points and 10 rebounds off the bench to lead the way.
  • Five conference games have been postponed to date. Every effort will be made to reschedule postponed games.
  • Vermont will host UNH  on Jan. 6 in a game that will air on ESPNU.
  • Three teams (Vermont, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook) posted 8 non-conference wins.
  • UMass Lowell had its best-ever record entering conference play at 8-4, including wins at Dayton and George Washington.
  • Vermont is 8-4 and finished non-league play with a .667 win percentage for the fourth time under John Becker.
  • Stony Brook has won five of its last six to wrap up non-league play 8-5.
  • America East teams beat two ACC squads in non-league play. UMBC trounced Pittsburgh, 87-77, on Nov. 27 while UAlbany beat Boston College, 61-57, on Dec. 13.
  • The Catamounts finished non-league play with a .667 win percentage for the fourth time under John Becker.
  • Vermont, winners of five of its last seven, is in the top 100 of the NET again this week (96).

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live! The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. The men’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 21.

Player of the Week
Miles Coleman, NJIT – Sr., Forward, West Palm Beach, Fla.
  • Recorded his second double-double of the season scoring a game-high 23 points and adding 10 rebounds.
  • Shot 9-of-14 from the floor.
  • This is Coleman’s first Player of the Week honor of the season and his career.
Rookie of the Week
Sam Ihekwoaba – Fr., Guard, Orlando, Fla. 
  • Scored a career-high 18 points off the bench vs. NJIT and added six rebounds.
  • Shot 8-of-14 from the field.
  • This is Ihekwoaba’s second career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor (12/6).
