UAlbany Hands NJIT First Loss, Improves to 3-0 in #AEHoops

BOSTON – UAlbany (3-0) has taken over first place in the standings as the only undefeated team remaining in conference play. The Great Danes handed NJIT its first league loss of the season on Saturday with a 62-54 win.

  • The Great Danes have won seven consecutive games and nine of their last ten.
  • Colleen Mullen’s defense is allowing just 48.5 points per game, which ranks second in Division I.
  • Stony Brook (4-1) has won four-straight games and six of seven.
  • The Seawolves topped Vermont to improve to a perfect 7-0 at home then beat UNH on the road.
  • Maine defeated the Wildcats 77-51 Thursday behind 15 made three-pointers and 62% shooting.
  • Vermont beat UMBC 69-36 on Saturday at home.
  • Josie Larkins scored her 1,000th career point last week, joining India Pagan, Ellyn Stoll and Janee’a Summers as the league’s active 1,000-point scorers.
  • The Great Danes are a perfect 7-0 in their home building.
  • Stony Brook became the first #AEHoops program to beat two Power-5 teams in the same season since Maine beat LSU and Clemson in 2015-16.
  • The Seawolves have the best non-conference record (9-1) since the 2019-20 Seawolves started 12-1.
  • The Seawolves ranked tenth in last week’s College Insider Mid Major Top 25.

Player of the Week
Kayla Cooper, UAlbany – So., Guard, Frederick, Md.
  • Led UAlbany’s stellar play, averaging a double-double in a 2-0 week.
  • Cooper notched a game-high 21 points and 15 rebounds in the win at NJIT.
  • The sophomore averaged 18.0 points and 14.5 rebounds while hitting 45 percent of her shots on the week.
  • This is her first career Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Talia Davis, New Hamsphire – Fr., Forward, Dedham, Mass.
  • Averaged 10.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in two games.
  • Scored a career-high 17 points against Stony Brook while grabbing nine rebounds.
  • Davis made 63 percent of her shots in the two games combined.
  • This is her first career #AEHoops honor.
