Vermont's Offensive Surge Leads to 3-0 #AEHoops Start

BOSTON – Two weeks into #AEHoops conference play and a familiar face sits atop the standings. Vermont is off to a 3-0 start after posting two more wins last week.

#AEHoops Notes
  • Vermont beat Stony Brook and UMBC last week to improve to 3-0 in #AEHoops play.
  • The Catamounts, winners of four in a row and six of their last seven, improved 31 spots from last week’s NCAA Net and rank 65th in the country, behind only Iona among regional peers.
  • Vermont matched the conference’s single-game record and set a new program standard by hitting 19 three-pointers in a 98-65 win over Stony Brook on Wednesday.
  • UVM again flourished offensively on Saturday, scoring 86 points in an 86-69 victory at UMBC.
  • Ben Shungu scored a career-high 29 points to lead UVM to a win over UNH on Thursday.
  • Binghamton beat Maine, 73-65, on Sunday, dominating the glass in the process as it held a 42-28 rebounding edge.
  • The Bearcats are 3-1 in league play and have won three of their last four overall.
  • After starting 0-2 in conference play, UAlbany posted two wins last week, beating UMass Lowell and NJIT. The Great Danes were powered by their defense holding their two opponents to just 51.5 ppg in the two games.
  • 10 conference games have been postponed to date. Every effort will be made to reschedule postponed games.
  • Three teams (Vermont, UMass Lowell and Stony Brook) posted eight non-conference wins.
  • UMass Lowell had its best-ever record entering conference play at 8-4, including wins at Dayton and George Washington.
  • Vermont is 8-4 and finished non-league play with a .667 win percentage for the fourth time under John Becker.
  • Stony Brook has won five of its last six to wrap up non-league play 8-5.
  • America East teams beat two ACC squads in non-league playUMBC trounced Pittsburgh, 87-77, on Nov. 27 while UAlbany beat Boston College, 61-57, on Dec. 13.
  • The Catamounts finished non-league play with a .667 win percentage for the fourth time under John Becker.

Player of the Week
Finn Sullivan, Vermont – Sr., Guard, San Diego, Calif.
  • Averaged 19.5 points in leading Vermont to a 2-0 week.
  • Shot 59 percent from three-point land (10-of-27).
  • Had 19 points on 6-of-8 shooting vs. Stony Brook on Wednesday and followed up with 20 points against UMBC on Saturday.
  • This is Sullivan’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Sam Ihekwoaba, Maine – Fr., Guard, Orlando, Fla. 
  • Scored 13 points and added four assists in Maine’s lone game of the week.
  • This is Ihekwoaba’s fourth career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor and third straight (1/10, 1/3, 12/6).
