Litwinko Leads NJIT to 3-0 Start to #AEHoops Play

BOSTON – The NJIT Highlanders remained perfect in conference play, defeating Binghamton on the road in their lone game last week.

  • The Highlanders’ 3-0 start to conference play is the program’s best in the Division I era.
  • The team has won four in a row and their eight wins are the most since the 2016-17 season.
  • Stony Brook (11-2, 2-1) topped Maine on Sunday in a rematch of the 2021 #AEHoops title game.
  • It was the Seawolves’ first win in Bangor since 2014.
  • UAlbany won its fifth-straight game Saturday, opening conference play with a 50-39 win over New Hampshire.
  • The Great Danes are a perfect 7-0 in their home building.
  • Vermont won its first league game of the season last Wednesday, topping UNH on the road behind 17 points from Josie Larkins.
  • Stony Brook became the first #AEHoops program to beat two Power-5 teams in the same season since Maine beat LSU and Clemson in 2015-16.
  • The Seawolves have the best non-conference record (9-1) since the 2019-20 Seawolves started 12-1.
  • The Seawolves ranked seventh in last week’s College Insider Mid Major Top 25.

Fans will once again be able to watch every #AEHoops game this season regardless of where they live! The majority games will air on The AE on ESPN, either ESPN+ or ESPN3, in the United States. Games will also be available internationally on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

The women’s #AEHoops preseason poll was announced on Oct. 20.
 
2021-22 Weekly Award Winners (Jan. 10)
Player of the Week
Lyzi Litwinko, NJIT – So., Guard, Berlin, Conn.
  • Recorded her third career double-double, leading the Highlanders to victory over the Bearcats with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
  • Went 9-for-13 from the field for a 69 percent success rate.
  • Litwinko dished out a pair of assists and did not turn the ball over.
  • This is her first career Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Genevieve Coleman, Binghamton – Fr., Forward, Owego, N.Y.
  • Notched 12 points and six rebounds in her first conference game.
  • Coleman shot 63 percent from the field and made two of her three attempts from beyond the arc, both within the closing minutes.
  • Also dished out a pair of assists.
  • This is her second Rookie of the Week honor this season.
