Binghamton Starts #AEVB Conference Play 2-0

BOSTON – On the opening weekend of conference play it was Binghamton getting off to the hottest start. After topping NJIT in five sets the Bearcats outlasted UAlbany in five thrilling sets to become the lone 2-0 team in league matches.
 
UMBC topped Stony Brook and New Hampshire bested Hartford in their conference openers. Play will resume Friday with a trio of matches on both Friday and Sunday. The majority of matches can be viewed live on AmericaEast.tv.
 
 
The preseason poll was released on Aug. 12.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEVB this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEVB Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 28
Player of the Week
Anna Sprys, Binghamton – Jr., Middle Blocker, Pittsburgh, Pa.
  • Hit .352 leading Binghamton to a 2-0 start to league play.
  • Sprys recorded 12 blocks against UAlbany - the most in a conference match in 10 years.
  • This is her first career #AEVB honor.
 
Setter of the Week
Wren Macaulay, New Hampshire – Jr., Setter, Lake Orion, Mich.
  • Averaged 11.67 assists per set in UNH’s 1-0 week.
  • Macaulay’s 35 assists against Hartford tied a conference-high for a three-set match this season.
  • This is her third Setter of the Week award this season.
 
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Mia Pagliarini, New Hampshire – So., Libero, Springboro, Ohio
  • Recorded 18 digs, averaging 6.0 per set.
  • Led a defense that held Hartford to its lowest hitting percentage in five matches.
  • This is Pagliarini’s second consecutive Defensive Specialist of the Week honor and third of her career.
 
Rookie of the Week
Mia Bilusic, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Zagreb, Croatia
  • Totaled 45 kills including 23 in the Retrievers’ win over Stony Brook.
  • Bilusic also recorded 14 digs in her first career conference match.
  • This is her second consecutive Rookie of the Week nod.
