UMBC, UNH, NJIT, Stony Brook Win #AEMSOC Conference Openers

BOSTON – Conference play in America East men's soccer got underway Saturday with four league games. #9 New Hampshire beat UAlbany, 2-0, to stay perfect at 7-0-0. UMBC, NJIT and Stony Brook also earned wins to get off to 1-0 starts.

Each team will play an eight-game schedule in the single round robin format. The top six teams in the conference standings based on points percentage will qualify for the 2021 America East men's soccer championship.

Four more conference games take place on Saturday.
 
 
The preseason poll was announced on August 9.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEMSOC this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEMSOC Weekly Award Winners – Sept. 20
Offensive Player of the Week
Taylor Calheira, UMBC - So., Forward, Towson, Md.
  • Tallied a league-high 8 pts (3G, 2A) in a 2-0 week for UMBC.
  • Had both goals in UMBC's 2-1 overtime win over Mount St. Mary's.
  • Factored in all three UMBC goals in Saturday's 3-0 win over Hartford.
  • This is his first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Edmund Kaiser, Stony Brook - Jr., Goalkeeper, Karlsruhe, Germany
  • Stopped all five shots he faced in Stony Brook's 2-0 win over Vermont on Saturday.
  • This is his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Jonus Bickus, Stony Brook – Fr., Forward, Klaipeda, Lithuania
  • Scored one of Stony Brook's two goals in the Seawolves' 2-0 win over previously unbeaten Vermont on Sunday
  • This is his third Rookie of the Week honor (8/31, 9/13).
