BOSTON – Perennially strong from top to bottom, #AEMSOC teams continued that trend to start the 2021 season as the nine teams combined to go 10-4-4, a .667 win percentage.
Reigning champion New Hampshire was one of five programs to go unbeaten at it posted shutout victories over Boston University and Colgate. Binghamton and Vermont also got off to perfect 2-0 starts, while NJIT and UMass Lowell are 1-0-1 two games into their seasons.
Eighteen more non-conference games take place this week, including UNH hosting Providence Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
UNH moved up six spots to No. 14 in the latest United Soccer Coaches' Division I Top 25 released today. Vermont is also receiving votes. Additionally a trio of players from those two programs were named to the Hermann Trophy Preseason Watch List, which was released on Aug. 26. UNH's Bridger Hansen and Vermont's Noah Egan and Alex Nagy were honored.
The preseason poll was announced on August 9.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEWSOC this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Rene White, NJIT – Sr., Forward, Bloomfield, N.J.
- Tallied a league-best seven points (3G, 1A) in leading NJIT to a 1-0-1 week.
- Had two goals, including the 40th of his career, and an assist in the Highlander’s season-opening win on Thursday.
- This is White second career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nathan Silveira, Vermont – Jr, Goalkeeper, East Providence, R.I.
- Stopped all seven shots she faced in recording pair of shutout wins last week.
- This is his second career Defensive Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Jonas Bickus, Stony Brook - Fr., Forward, Klaipeda, Lithuania
- Scored the lone goal Stony Brook’s win over LIU on Thursday
- This is his first career Rookie of the Week award.
