Six Teams Win on Opening Weekend in #AEFH

BOSTON – Six teams found the win column to start the 2021 field hockey season which kicked off last week. UMass Lowell carries the lone unblemished record into week two after topping Bryant 5-0 on Saturday.
 
New Hampshire blanked Ohio, 1-0, Saturday and Monmouth bested Northeastern, 6-5, in overtime the following day. California topped No. 25 Stanford in the opener which was deemed a non-conference contest.
 
Play resumes Friday with 13 non-league games on the calendar this weekend including four against top-25 opponents.
 
 
The preseason poll was released Aug. 11.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEFH this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEFH Weekly Award Winners – Aug. 31
Offensive Player of the Week
Hanna McKie, Monmouth – Gr., Forward, Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Tallied a hat trick in Monmouth’s first win of the season.
  • McKie scored three of the Hawks’ six goals to earn her first career #AEFH weekly honor.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Jemma Woods, New Hampshire – Jr., Goalkeeper, Frimley, England
  • Made fives saves in shuout win over Ohio to open the season.
  • This is the second career Defensive Player of the Week for Woods.
 
Rookie of the Week
Lorane Vanneste, Monmouth – Fr., Back, Antwerp, Belgium
  • Six-point week opened her collegiate career.
  • Vanneste scored her first goal against Boston University and added two more against Northeastern.
