Two outstanding student-athletes capped their 2020-21 years with CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. UMBC pitcher Courtney Coppersmith and Binghamton distance runner Emily Mackay both earned third team honors in their respective sports.
Coppersmith, a two-time America East Pitcher of the Year in softball, was also the conference’s Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year with a 3.71 in biochemistry and molecular biology. The All-American pitcher also received the conference’s prestigious Elite 18 award this spring.
Mackay earned Academic All-America status after competing in not one but two national championships. She qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships by winning a captivating #AEXC championship in March and followed that with an appearance on the national stage in outdoor track and field. Mackay was named an All-American in both sports.
