SECAUCUS, N.J. – Maine All-American Nick Sinacola was selected in the seventh round of the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday afternoon when the San Francisco Giants called his name with the 206th pick.
Sinacola added to his collection of accolades, becoming the highest #AEBASE draft pick since 2018 when two Black Bears were selected in the first five rounds. The 2021 America East Pitcher of the Year caught the eyes of the nation this year, ranking second in Division I in K/9. Sinacola set a single-season conference record with 139 strikeouts in 79.1 innings, topping former Stony Brook and big league pitcher Nick Tropeano's previous mark.
55 America East players have been drafted over the past 11 years. Current major leaguers include Travis Jankowski (Philadelphia Phillies) and Adam Ottavino (Boston Red Sox). Tropeano, Sean Newcomb and Daniel Zamora have also made appearances for MLB ballclubs this season.
