New Hampshire (W), UMass Lowell (M) Lead after Day One of #AETF Championships

LOWELL, Mass. – A long-time record crumbling and first-time achievements highlighted the first day of #AETF championship competition in 434 days. UMass Lowell holds a slim lead on New Hampshire in the men’s standings while the Wildcats lead the women’s events.

Day 1 Highlights
  • UAlbany junior Adrian Mitchell won the first event of the day, retaking his claim as the conference’s top javelin thrower. The 2017 gold medalist won this year’s event with 206’1”.
  • Samantha Moravsky became the first Hartford Hawk to win the javelin with a heave of 158’5” Saturday morning.
  • Terrel Davis broke a 20 year-old record in the long jump, clearing 24’11.25” to break Northeastern standout David Klemic’s previous mark of 24’9.75”.
  • Binghamton’s Aziza Chigatayeva repeated in the steeplechase with her 10:29.51 besting last year’s time.
  • No Stony Brook student-athlete had won the men’s 10,000-meter run until Cameron Avery did so in 32:07.13 on Saturday.
  • UMBC freshman Ian Hoffman won the pole vault as one of three to clear 15’1”
  • Senior Andrew Haberman became the third Retriever in four years to win the hammer throw  193’8”.
  • Women’s 400-meter reigning champ and record-holder Amanda Stead takes the top qualifying time into Sunday’s finals.
  • Going into the final lap of the women’s 10K, Vermont freshman Lily Porth overtook Meg Champagne and put some distance between them to secure her first gold medal.
  • UMass Lowell’s Rachel Hill won the pole vault, clearing 11’11.75”.
 
Sunday competition gets underway at 9 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles portion of the decathlon.
