LOWELL, Mass. – For the first time in over 14 months, America East track and field programs will compete for a championship. UMass Lowell is set to host the first America East Outdoor Track and Field Championship since 2019 after last season was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Saturday will mark the first time the meet will feature ten teams as NJIT joins the fold. Competition gets underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning with the men’s javelin. The AmericaEast.tv broadcast begins at noon on Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
UAlbany enters as the men’s and women’s reigning champs. The Great Danes have won the previous 11 women’s titles while the men made it 15 straight at outdoors in 2019.
The men’s long jump is one event to circle on the schedule. Hartford graduate student Terrel Davis qualified for NCAAs in the event following 2020 indoors and enters with the top mark in the conference. 2019 winner Nathan Hobbs ranks second in the conference this season while a pair of UAlbany student-athletes also cleared 7.50m this year.
Cross Country All-Americans Emily Mackay and Kaley Richards are poised to be point-getters for Binghamton and UMass Lowell, respectively, in the distance events. 2019 Most Outstanding Track Performer Amanda Stead looks to defend her title in the 400-meter dash after the Stony Brook senior set a meet record at UAlbany two years ago.
