Close Contests Highlight Opening Week in #AEFH Play

BOSTON – Six one-goal games highlighted the opening weekend of conference play in America East field hockey. Maine and Stanford earned a pair of wins while UAlbany became just the second team this season to beat then-ranked New Hampshire.
 
A full schedule of intraconference games lies ahead for this week with six games in the next four days.
 
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEFH this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEFH Weekly Award Winners – Mar. 23
Offensive Player of the Week
Corinne Zanolli, Stanford – Sr., Attacker, Newtown Square, Pa.
  • Opened her season with a trio of goals to lead the Cardinal to a pair of wins.
  • Zanolli scored twice in Stanford’s 3-0 win over Vermont to open the season.
  • She scored the game-winning goal in the 60th minute against Monmouth Sunday.
  • This is her eighth career Offensive Player of the Week award and first this season.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Julie Rodijk, UAlbany – So., Back, Huizen, Netherlands
  • Led UAlbany’s defensive unit in a 1-0 shutout win over #18 New Hampshire.
  • The Great Danes held UNH to six shots and just two on goal.
  • It was just the second time this season the Wildcats – averaging 2.4 goals per game – have been shut out.
  • This is her first career #AEFH honor.
 
Rookie of the Week
Poppy Lambert, Maine – Fr., Forward, Greytown, New Zealand
  • Scored in both games to lead Maine to 2-0 start to league play.
  • Lambert scored the lone goal against California.
  • She was also credited with the game winner in a 3-2 affair at UMass Lowell.
  • This is her first career weekly award.
