BOSTON – #AEVB conference play began last week and UAlbany and UMBC are each off to 2-0 starts. The Retrievers found themselves down 2-0 in Saturday’s match but won three consecutive sets to complete the comeback against Stony Brook.
Five league matches lie ahead for Sunday as UAlbany and UMBC are scheduled to compete at Binghamton and NJIT is scheduled to host Stony Brook.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEVB this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Player of the Week
Darina Kumanova, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Plovdiv, Bulgaria
- Had 32 kills and 29 digs in UMBC’s perfect start to conference play.
- Her 23 kills and 18 digs helped the Retrievers win three-straight sets on Saturday after being down 2-0.
- Averaged 3.2 kills per set on the weekend and leads the conference in that category this season.
- This is her first career #AEVB Player of the Week nod after being named Rookie of the Week to open the season.
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Loren Teter, UMBC – Gr., Libero, Redondo Beach, Calif.
- Tallied 44 digs in two wins over Stony Brook.
- Match-highs in digs on both Saturday and Sunday.
- Teter’s 26 digs on Saturday are a career-high and tied for most in by an #AEVB player this season.
- This is her first career Defensive Specialist of the Week honor.
Setter & Rookie of the Week
Aysia Miller, UMBC – Fr., Setter, Mililani, Hawaii
- Had a career weekend totaling 102 assists and 33 digs in two wins.
- Miller set a freshman school record with 55 assists on Saturday against Stony Brook.
- She began the week without a collegiate double-double and finished with two in two games.
- This is Miller’s second consecutive Setter of the Week honor and first Rookie of the Week destinction.
