UMBC, UMass Lowell Begin Outdoor Seasons

BOSTON – Outdoor track and field is officially back for the first time in two years. UMBC and UMass Lowell began their spring seasons last weekend. The Retrievers tied for first in the women’s team scoring at the Salisbury Spring Meet. The River Hawks opened at Rhode Island last Thursday.

Female Track Performer of the Week
Ariella Garcia, UMBC – Sr., Distance, Staten Island, N.Y.
  • Earned gold in the 800m at the Salisbury Spring Meet.
  • Her 2:19.17 time makes ECAC cut.
  • This is her first weekly honor of the season.
 
Male Track Performer of the Week
Daniel Cosgrove, UMass Lowell – Sr., Distance, Boxford, Mass.
  • Won the 1,500m at URI in 3:54.23 – a personal-best.
  • Cosgrove’s time ranks 16th in Division I this season.
  • This is his first career #AETF award.
 
Female Field Performer of the Week
Jasmine Holland, UMBC – So., Jumps, Owings, Md.
  • Swept the long jump and triple jump to help UMBC compile the top team score.
  • Her leaps of 5.59m in the long jump and 11.76m in the triple both rank in the nation’s top-30 this spring.
  • Holland is a first-time Performer of the Week.
 
Male Field Performer of the Week
Andrew Haberman, UMBC – Sr., Throws, Sykesville, Md.
  • Earned a gold medal in the hammer throw in Salisbury.
  • Haberman’s heave of 55.61m ranks 21st in the country this season.
  • This is his first weekly honor of the season.
