Mackay, Richards Named All-Americans in Cross Country

STILLWATER, Okla. – A pair of America East student-athletes earned All-America honors on Monday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Binghamton speedster Emiy Mackay, who won the women’s 5K at the spring 2021 #AEXC Championships, finished 14th at the national championships. It was the highest finish by an America East runner since 11-time All-American Elinor Purrier finished seventh in 2016. Mackay’s time of 20:34.5 in the 6K put her in the fifth percentile of the whole race.

UMass Lowell graduate student Kaley Richards was recognized as an All-American for the second time in three days. After placing fourth in the mile at NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, Richards ran a 20:46.9 6K, finishing 30th at cross country nationals.

2021 marks the first time in over five years that multiple America East student-athletes earned All-America status at NCAA Cross Country Championships.

Two other River Hawks had qualified for nationals in 2021 America East champion Kyle Cloutier and Christopher Alfond. Alfond finished 70th in the men's 10K.
