Richards Places Fourth in Mile, Named All-American

UMass Lowell graduate student Kaley Richards earned All-America status on Saturday, finishing fourth in the mile at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

After running a personal-best pace in the semifinals on Friday, Richards’s finals time of 4:36.26 set a new personal mark. She trailed only the winner - Colorado’s Sage Hurta - and a pair of Arkansas student-athletes in the national finals to earn recognition on the All-American First Team. Richards is the first indoor #AETF honoree since Elinor Purrier won the mile in 2018. She is the second River Hawk honoree, joining Paul Hogan.

Richards was the first UMass Lowell student-athlete to compete in NCAA indoors and will run with three other America East student-athletes in the Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday.
