#AEVB Season Underway; Conference Play Scheduled for Friday

BOSTON – Exactly 15 months since the last #AEVB match concluded, the conference announced the first weekly awards of the spring 2021 season. Three programs embarked on their seasons with UAlbany and UMBC each earning wins in their openers.
 
NJIT and Stony Brook also played in matches last weekend. All seven #AEVB teams are scheduled to play conference matches this weekend, beginning on Friday with Hartford hosting Binghamton.
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEVB this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEVB Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 23
Player of the Week
Danielle Tedesco, UAlbany – Sr., Middle Blocker, Cazenovia, N.Y.
  • Totaled 21 kills, seven digs and seven blocks in UAlbany’s first two matches of the season.
  • Tedesco led the Great Danes with a match-high 16 kills and seven blocked shots in the opening win over Sacred Heart.
  • Also recorded six digs in the first match, a 3-2 win.
  • This is her first career #AEVB Player of the Week nod.
 
Setter of the Week
Aysia Miller, UMBC – Fr., Setter, Mililani, Hawaii
  • Had 40 assists in her first collegiate match, a win over Coppin State.
  • Miller averaged 13.33 assists per set.
  • She also recorded six digs and the team hit .417 on her set attempts.
  • This is Miller’s first career #AEVB honor.
 
Defensive Specialist of the Week
Charlotte Macken, UAlbany – Jr., Libero, Clifton Park, N.Y.
  • Team-high 25 digs in UAlbany’s season-opening win against Sacred Heart.
  • Compiled 31 digs, three assists and three aces in two matches.
  • This is Macken’s third career Defensive Specialist of the Week honor and first this season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Darina Kumanova, UMBC – Fr., Outside Hitter, Plovdiv, Bulgaria
  • Led UMBC with a match-high 15 kills in a win over Coppin State.
  • Tallied 12 digs in her first collegiate appearance.
  • Also had a perfect return percentage on 20 serve return attempts.
  • This is her first Rookie of the Week award.
