#AEMSOC Spring Season Starts with League Play Beginning Friday

BOSTON – Nearly 15 months since the last #AEMSOC team took the field, the spring 2021 season began last weekend with two teams in action. Both UAlbany and NJIT played to draws ahead power-conference teams as UAlbany deadlocked Syracuse 1-1 and NJIT played Seton Hall to a 3-3 tie.  
 
Conference play gets underway on Friday with UMass Lowell hosting reigning league champion and preseason favorite NJIT, while the Great Danes visit Binghamton. The preseason poll and season details were announced on Feb. 10.
 
Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEMSOC this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. Those games will be available on computers, OTT devices and the brand new America East app, which is available on all IOS and Android devices and can be found by searching ‘America East Conference’ in app stores.

#AEMSOC Weekly Award Winners – Feb. 23
Offensive Player of the Week
Adam Aoumaich, UAlbany – Fr., Forward
  • Scored the game-tying goal to lead UAlbany to a 1-1 tie vs. Syracuse.
  • This is Aoumaich’s first career Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Defensive Player of the Week
Riccardo Iafrate, UAlbany – Sr., Defender, Avenzzano, Italy
  • Led a defense that held Syracuse, an NCAA 2nd round team in 2019, to just 3 shots on goal
  • This is Iafrate’s first career Defensive Player of the Week award.
Rookie of the Week
Sergio Pita, NJIT – Fr., Madrid, Spain 
  • Scored NJIT’s 1st goal, the first of his career, in tie vs. Seton Hall
  • This is Pita’s first career Rookie of the Week honor.
