Vermont Ties UMBC Atop Men's #AEHoops Standings Ahead of Showdown

BOSTON – Vermont returned to action last week and extended its win streak to seven games with a sweep of Stony Brook. With the two wins, the Catamounts joined UMBC atop the league standings at 9-3.
 
In the other series that took place over the weekend, Albany and UMass Lowell played to a split as did Hartford and NJIT. Full Schedule/Results
A battle between the league’s top two teams takes place this week as Vermont and UMBC, winner of five in a row, square off in Baltimore on Thursday and Friday. Thursday’s matchups will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. Also in games scheduled for this weekend, UNH visits UMass Lowell in a single game on Saturday while Binghamton hosts NJIT and Stony Brook visits UAlbany in weekend matchups.
 
On Sunday, the conference announced the tentative schedule for the rest of the regular-season, which extends through Feb. 28. Any schedule changes will be announced on Twitter @AEHoopsNews.

Player of the Week
Stef Smith, Vermont – Sr., Guard, Ajax, Ontario
  • Averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steal in a perfect 2-0 week for Vermont.
  • Shot 54 percent from the floor (13-for-24).
  • Scored 22 points in Saturday’s win and had 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists in Sunday’s win.
  • This is Smith’s first career #AEHoops Player of the Week honor.
Rookie of the Week
Thomas Webley, Hartford – Fr., Forward, Christchurch, New Zealand
  • Averaged 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Hartford.
  • Shot 71 percent from the floor.
  • Matched his career high with 10 points on Saturday vs. NJIT and added a career-best eight rebounds.
  • This is Webley’s third #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor of the season (12/7).
