NCAA Top-Five Marks Highlight Opening #AETF Awards

BOSTON – The 2021-22 indoor track and field season is underway and, for the first time in two years, an America East championship bookends the season in February.
 
A handful of female #AETF student-athletes posted top-15 times in the national rankings to open the season with weekly awards recipients cracking the top-five. Maine swept UNH in a dual meet as the Black Bears began the season at home.
 
Here are the first #AETF weekly awards of the season:
 
#AETF Weekly Award Winners – Dec. 7
Female Track Performer of the Week
Caitlyn Bobb, UMBC – Fr., Sprints, Joppa. Md.  
  • In her first collegiate race, won the 500m with an ECAC/IC4A qualifying time.
  • Her 1:14.14 time ranks 5th nationally in the event.
 
Male Track Performer of the Week
Yourry Tapande-Ngombe, UAlbany – Sr., Sprints, Capital Heights, Md.
  • Won the 400-meter dash at the Carlton Crowell Open at West Point.
  • His time broke the meet record and converts to 47.73, which ranks in the NCAA top-five.
 
Female Field Performer of the Week
Leann Nicholas, UAlbany – Fr., Jumps, Farmingdale, N.Y.
  • Debuted with an impressive 40’11” jump in the triple jump, ranking fourth in Dl.
  • Nicholas led a trio of Great Danes who took the top-three spots in the event.
 
Male Field Performe of the Week
Marcrene Jeannot, Binghamton – Jr., Jumps, Bay Shore, N.Y.
  • Won the triple jump at Greg Page Relays.
  • His distance of 48’5.25” ranks 18th nationally.
