Binghamton & Vermont Win at URI, Earn #AESD Weekly Honors

BOSTON – Binghamton’s men’s swimming and diving team heads into a two-month break with four wins on the season. The latest triumph for the Bearcats was over four other programs at the Harold Anderson Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
 
Vermont tied URI for first in the women’s competition, ahead of Binghamton and Maine. Stony Brook defeated Siena for its second win and will compete in the CCSU Blue Devil invite in two weeks when Maine partakes in the Maine State Meet.

Female Swimmer of the Week
Mina Poppas, Vermont – Jr., Freestyle, Hilo, Hawaii
  • Swam a winning time of 1:50.86 in the 200 freestyle.
  • Also won the 500 free and swam the fastest 100 free by an #AESD student-athlete this season.
  • Poppas was part of the 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams that set pool records.
 
Male Swimmer of the Week
Liam Murphy, Binghamton – So., Freestyle, Pittsford, N.Y.
  • Won the 1650 freestyle in 15:56.75.
  • Murphy also won the 200 free (1:40.24) and 500 free (4:29.33).
  • Helped Binghamton relay teams win the 400 and 800 free relays.
 
Female Diver of the Week
Mia Sclar, Stony Brook – Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Won the one-meter dive to help Stony Brook to a win over Siena.
  • Her score of 302.18 broke a 19 year-old program record.
  
Male Diver of the Week
Chris Egan, Binghamton – Sr., Central Valley, N.Y.
  • Swept the diving events to help Binghamton to a victory at URI.
  • Won the one-meter with a score of 302.65.
  • Won the three-meter with 280.75 points.
