Vermont, UMass Lowell MBB Stay Hot, Week 2 #AEMBB Awards Announced

BOSTON – Vermont and UMass Lowell kept rolling last week while UMBC and Maine also picked up wins.
 
Looking Back
  • UMass Lowell won twice more last week to improve to 4-1, its best start at the Division I level.
  • The River Hawks posted their second-straight road win vs. an Atlantic 10 foe on Friday, beating George Washington, 67-56.
  • UML outscored the Colonials by 20 points in the second half.
  • Darnell Rogers matched his career high with 23 points in UMBC’s 91-75 win over Western Carolina on Thursday.
  • Vermont beat Ivy League preseason favorite Yale, 61-53, on Friday to improve to 3-1.

The Week Ahead
  • Nineteen more games take place this week, including seven at home for #AEHoops teams.
  • Stony Brook hosts Sacred Heart Monday in its home opener.
  • UAlbany visits #13 Kentucky on Monday.
  • Vermont will play in the Florida Gulf Coast Showcase and open against Oakland on Monday.
  • UMass Lowell will try to make it three-straight road wins at an A10 opponent when it visits UMass on Wednesday.
  • Stony Brook visits Yale on Sunday in a battle of teams chosen to win their respective league.

Player of the Week
Ryan Davis, Vermont – Sr., Forward, Schaumburg, Ill.
  • Averaged 23.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.5 blocks in a 2-0 week.
  • Had 18 points, nine boards, three assists, four blocks and a pair of steals in UVM’s win over Yale on Friday.
  • Scored a career-high 28 points in the win over WPI on Tuesday.
  • This is Davis’ first #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Justin Neely, UAlbany – Fr., Forward, Miami, Fla.
  • Contributed 9.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in two contests last week.
  • Had a career-high 15 points and nine boards vs. Eastern Kentucky on Saturday.
  • This is Neely’s first career #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor.
