UAlbany and New Hampshire are moving on in the America East Women’s Soccer Championship. The #3 Great Danes and #6 Wildcats each posted quarterfinal wins on Sunday to advance to the semifinals.
UAlbany scored twice in the second half to beat #5 Binghamton at home, 2-0 while New Hampshire played #3 NJIT to a scoreless tie before winning the penalty kick shootout in dramatic fashion, 5-4.
The Great Danes will head to Burlington, Vt. for the semifinals and meet regular-season champion and top-seeded Vermont at 6 p.m. The Wildcats head to #2 UMass Lowell for a meeting with the River Hawks at 7 p.m. in the other semi

#4 UAlbany 2, #5 Binghamton 0
- UAlbany scored twice in a 14-minute span in the second half to beat Binghamton and advance to the semifinals.
- The Great Danes are in the semis for the third time in four years and first time under head coach Leigh Howard.
- Jada Colbert went coast-to-coast for a breakaway score in the 61st minute that gave UAlbany a 1-0 lead.
- Brooke Pickett added insurance in the 75th minute with her first career score to give the Great Danes a 2-0 lead.
- Binghamton had two prime opportunities in the first half, both by second-team All-Conference standout Maya Anand, but she hit the crossbar twice.
#6 New Hampshire 0, #3 NJIT 0 – UNH advances on PKs, 5-4
- Meghan Guarente’s shootout attempt put UNH up 5-4 and NJIT’s tying attempt went wide to send the Wildcats to the semifinals for the fourth time in the last six years.
- UNH put four shots on goal during the game, all in the first half, but second-team All-Conference selection Molly Saylor turned them all away.
- It was NJIT’s turn in the second half as they had seven shots on goal but UNH’s Cat Sheppard stopped them all.
- Neither team had a shot on goal in the overtime sessions and after 110 scoreless minutes, the game went to the shootout, where UNH prevailed.
