Vermont Earns 1st #AEWSOC Regular-Season Title since 1996, 4 Tourney Spots Still in Play

BOSTON – For the first time since 1996, Vermont is the America East women's soccer regular-season champions! The Catamounts won their sixth-straight #AEWSOC contest on Sunday, beating UMBC 3-1, and will be the No. 1 seed for the upcoming America East Women's Soccer Championship.

Binghamton is the only other team to lock up a tourney bid. It will be the Bearcats' third-straight. Just four points separate the second through eighth place teams setting up a historic final day of the regular-season on Thursday. UMass Lowell, UNH, NJIT, Hartford, UAlbany and Stony Brook are all fighting for four tournament bids. The top six teams in the conference standings based on points percentage will be qualify for the 2021 America East women’s soccer championship.

Fans will once again be able to watch the majority of #AEWSOC this season. Select games will air on The AE on ESPN while others will air on AmericaEast.TV. #AEWSOC Weekly Award Winners – Oct. 25
Offensive Player of the Week
Ella Bankert, Vermont - Gr., Forward, Cuttingsville, Vt.
  • Assisted on two of Vermont three goals in its 3-1 win over UMBC.
  • The win helped the Catamounts secure their first regular-season title since 1996.
  • This is her first Offensive Player of the Week award.

Defensive Player of the Week
Madison Taibl, NJIT - Jr., Defender, Jackson, N.J.
  • Anchored a back line that shut out UAlbany and didn't allow a shot on goal the second half and overtime.
  • Kick-started goal scoring sequence. 
  • This is Taibl's first career Defensive Player of the Week award.

Rookie of the Week
Meghan Guarente, New Hampshire - Fr., Forward, Sewell, N.J.
  • Set up the only score in UNH’s key 1-0 win over Binghamton
  • This is her second Rookie of the Week award of the season.
