Crucial Fall Sports Weekend Begins Friday

The 2021 fall seasons are coming down the stretch and key weekend of matchups exists in all four America East team sports. Here’s what is at stake this weekend.

Field Hockey
Maine (5-1), California (4-1) and UAlbany (4-1) have all clinched spots in the 2021 #AEFH Championship. The six-team tournament will take place at the highest-seeded school located on the east coast. The Black Bears, winners of nine of their last 10 games, can secure hosting rights with a win over UMass Lowell on Friday and a UAlbany loss to Monmouth. Maine would also secure at least a share of the regular-season title with a win and losses by the Great Danes and California, which plays Stanford on Friday. Two more teams could clinch tournament bids Friday with wins and some help. Monmouth (3-2) is in with a win losses by UMass Lowell and UNH. Vermont (3-3), which dealt Maine its first league loss last week, qualifies with a win over the Wildcats on Friday. Full Schedule & Coverage Links

Women’s Soccer
Just two play dates remain in the #AEWSOC regular season and little has been decided. Only five points separate the top seven teams in the standings. The six teams with the best conference points percentage will make the #AEWSOC Championship. Binghamton visits UNH in the lone Saturday game. The Bearcats (4-1-2, 14 pts.) are currently in second place and can become the first team to clinch a bid with a win or tie. Vermont (5-2, 15 pts.), winners of five in a row, would also clinch a bid with a Binghamton loss or tie. The Catamounts have outscored opponents 10-1 during its five-game win streak. Further scenarios will be dictated by that result as well with four games set for 1 p.m. on Sunday. Full Schedule & Coverage Links

Men’s Soccer
Three men’s soccer dates remain on the 2021 schedule. New Hampshire remains unbeaten at 12-0-2 and is the No. 5 team in the country. The Wildcats, who sit atop the league standings at 4-0-1 (13 points) can become the first #AEMSOC team to clinch a tournament bid with a win or tie vs. UMBC on Saturday. Vermont and UAlbany, both tied for second at 3-1-1 with 10 points, meet in a pivotal game on Saturday. A win by either team would go a long way towards ensuring a tourney bid. Full Schedule & Coverage Links

Volleyball
The #AEVB schedule passed the halfway point for all teams this weekend. UMBC (7-0) is the lone unbeaten and can lock up a tournament bid with two wins this weekend or a win over Binghamton and a Hartford loss. The Retrievers take on UAlbany Friday in a rematch of last year’s championship match when UMBC won its first-ever league title. Full Schedule & Coverage Links
