BOSTON – America East Commissioner Amy Huchthausen announced today a pair of internal promotions as veteran staff members Marcus Bishop and Sam Schwartz were both elevated to the director level.
“Marcus and Sam have both made countless positive contributions to our staff and continuously make a meaningful impact on our league and member institutions, particularly on our student-athletes. They are both more than deserving of their promotions,” said Huchthausen.
Bishop, who is in third year at America East, has been elevated to Director, Sport Administration & Engagement after serving as Assistant Director, Operations & Championships most recently. In his role, Bishop serves at a key liaison to several groups within the conference. His work directly impacts student-athletes and important conference initiatives as he is the primary advisor to the conference’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Spread Respect Advisory Group as well as a core influencer on the conference’s #SpreadRespect and Student-Athlete Engagement initiatives. Bishop also continues to serve as the primary administrative contact and championship director for select sports and assists with overall office management.
“Marcus has a direct impact on our student-athletes on a daily basis through his work with SAAC and his influence on conference initiatives, and that has never been more evident or imperative than during the last year with the increased focus on diversity and inclusion and mental health,” continued Huchthausen. “We are incredibly fortunate to have him on our staff and I look forward to his continued growth in his new role.”
Schwartz, who has been promoted to Director, Content & Video, is in his fifth year as a member of the conference staff after starting as an intern in 2016 and most recently serving as Associate Director, Content & Video. He is a core member of the conference’s content team and influences the league’s content strategy daily as the producer and host of the #AEReport and #3Pillars podcasts. He also facilitates wide-ranging interviews with student-athletes, coaches and administrators that touch on the athletics, conference initiatives and more.
Additionally, Schwartz assists in several other areas, including video production, creative services and media relations.
“Sam’s work has exponentially helped grow the America East brand through the content he creates and gives fans more insight into our student-athletes, coaches and administrators as well as our schools, program and conference initiatives,” said Huchthausen. “Seeing his growth and development since he started as an intern with us in 2016 has been enjoyable and I am excited for that to continue in his new role.”
