Ready to Vote: America East Votes Challenge Launches
BOSTON – Continuing its commitment to captaining social justice, America East and its 10 member institutions are kicking off the America East Votes Challenge in partnership with the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge. The announcement comes on the heels of three successful America East Civic Engagement Conversations, which educated and engaged student-athletes on voter education resources and issues.
America East institutions will compete to engage student-athletes and the general student body in the voting process by workting to have them pledge to vote, learn about positions and issues on their ballot and having them create a plan to vote safely and successfully. Student-athletes will be empowered to increase peer voter engagement through meaningful and impactful initiatives developed and implemented in collaboration with their campus communities.
The conference will recognize the institutions that make the greatest impact and are most creative in their approaches leading up to Election Day.

For nearly a decade, America East has been a leader within college athletics in raising awareness and providing education in the areas of diversity and inclusion through its Spread Respect initiative. In recent months, the conference has taken several actionable steps towards combating discrimination based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation and religion, including making Nov. 3, 2020, Election Day, a mandatory day off from athletic activities and forming a Spread Respect Advisory Committee to address systemic racial injustice and inequality and its direct impact on those within the conference.
