The University of Maine women's basketball program was rewarded for its excellence in the classroom as the Black Bears were selected to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Top 25 Academic Honor Roll for the third time in the past six seasons. With a team grade-point average of 3.655, the team checked in at No. 17 on the national list, as announced by the WBCA on Tuesday, Aug. 11.

Maine represented the America East Conference in the Top-25 Academic Honor Roll and ranked higher than any Ivy League or CAA program and just below a pair of Patriot League teams. The Black Bears earned their highest-ever seeding on the honor roll after previously being ranked No. 18 in 2016 and No. 24 in 2015.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA and junior/community college women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.
