Six All-Conference Standouts Named Winter Scholar-Athletes

BOSTON – Six standout student-athletes who have displayed excellence both academically and athletically this year and throughout their collegiate careers highlight the 2019-20 America East Winter Scholar-Athletes as announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office. All six honorees were All-Conference selections this year.

2019-20 America East Winter Scholar-Athletes
Christian Lutete, UMass Lowell, Sr. – Men’s Basketball
  • Graduated with a perfect 3.79 GPA in economics and carries a perfect 4.00 graduate GPA in peace and conflict studies.
  • Named to CoSIDA’s 2019-20 first-team Academic All-America squad.
  • America East All-Academic choice for the second time in his career.
  • NABC All-District selection.
  • Second-team All-Conference selection for the second-straight year.
Hanna Crymble, Vermont, Sr. – Women’s Basketball
  • Has a 3.81 GPA majoring in biochemistry.
  • Earned third-team CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
  • America East All-Academic selection for the third-straight year.
  • Earned America East Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2019-20.
  • America East First-Team All-Conference and All-Defensive Team selection.
 Ilia Rattsev, UMBC, Sr. – Men’s Swimming & Diving
  • Carries a 3.97 GPA in bioformatics and computational biology.
  • Earned the 2020 America East Elite 18 Award for having the highest GPA among top male performers at the 2020 #AESD Championship.
  • Named an America East All-Academic Team honoree for the third time.
  • Won seven gold medals at the 2020 Swimming & Diving Championship (3 individual, 4 relay) and earned the David Alexander Coaches’ Award for tabulating the most points.
Anna Metzler, New Hampshire, So. – Women's Swimming & Diving
  • Has a 3.91 GPA majoring in biomedical sciences.
  • Earned All-America honors after qualifying for the NCAA Championship in the 200 and 400 IM.
  • Named the Most Outstanding Swimmer at the 2020 America East Championship.
  • Won seven events (three individual, four relay) and set 15 new records at the meet.
  • Led UNH to the 2020 women’s swimming & diving title.
Vann Moffett, Stony Brook, Sr. – Men’s Indoor Track & Field
  • Holds a 3.67 GPA as a double major in business management and history.
  • 2020 America East All-Academic choice.
  • Placed third in the 3,000 meters at the IC4A Championships.
  • Earned All-Conference honors in 2020 by winning the 3,000 meters and anchoring Stony Brook’s distance medley relay squad at the America East Championship.
Shannon Murdock, New Hampshire, Sr. – Women’s Indoor Track & Field
  • Earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing (3.72 GPA) and carries a perfect 4.0 graduate GPA in nursing.
  • This is her second Scholar-Athlete honor of 2019-20 after also earning the women’s cross country award.
  • America East All-Academic choice.
  • Won the 5,000 meters at the America East Championship and also placed second in the mile to earn All-Conference honors.
 
The Scholar-Athletes were members of teams in the six championship sports which America East sponsored in the winter season including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving and men’s and women’s indoor track & field. Nominees were put forward by their institution, which could nominate up to one student-athlete per sport, then voted upon by the conference's Student-Athlete Engagement committee. Each America East Scholar-Athlete was a starter or prominent reserve and carries a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50.

Sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Male or Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced later this year
