Stony Brook Clinches Top Seed in #AEPlayoffs; Final Week of Regular Season Arrives

BOSTON – Entering the final week of the #AEHoops regular season, three of the top-four playoff spots have been clinched led by first-time regular season champion Stony Brook. The Seawolves secured the top seed and home court advantage in the #AEPlayoffs following a road win against Vermont last Wednesday.
 
Maine and UMass Lowell have also clinched the right to host a quarterfinal game. The Black Bears won their sixth-straight contest on Sunday while simultaneously snapping the longest win streak in the country and handing the Seawolves their first conference loss of the season. Binghamton can become the final team to host a quarterfinal with a win Wednesday against UMBC.
 
For the second-straight year the top eight teams in the standings will earn 2020 Hercules Tires America East Women's Basketball Playoffs berths with the top four teams securing home quarterfinal games. Visit #AEPlayoffs Central

Player of the Week
Maddy McVicar, Maine – Sr., Guard, Calais, Maine
  • Scored a career-high 28 points on Sunday in Maine's overtime win over previously unbeaten Stony Brook.
  • McVicar shot 50 percent, sinking six three-pointers while also snatching six rebounds and four steals.
  • This is her first career #AEHoops Player of the Week award.
 
Rookie of the Week
Helene Haegerstrand, UAlbany – Fr., Forward, Stockholm, Sweden
  • Averaged 15.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of games.
  • First career double-double against UMBC with 16 points and ten boards.
  • This is her first Rookie of the Week nod.
