#AEPlayoffs Seeding Battle Heats up as Season Winds Down

BOSTON – With the #AEPlayoffs fast approaching, three of the home sites for the quarterfinals on March 7 are still at stake. Stony Brook can join Vermont as teams to secure a top-four seed with a win over Hartford on Wednesday. The Hawks, UMBC, winner of five in a row, UAlbany and New Hampshire, all remain well-positioned to vie for a top four seed. The top eight teams in the standings will earn bids to the 2020 Hercules Tires America East Men’s Basketball Playoffs with the top four teams earning home quarterfinal games. With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Vermont (12-2) sits atop the standings, followed by Stony Brook (9-4), Hartford (7-6), UAlbany (7-6), UMBC (7-6), ), New Hampshire (6-7), UMass Lowell (5-8), Maine (3-10) and Binghamton (3-11).

Player of the Week
Sam Sessoms, Binghamton – So., Guard, Philadelphia, Pa.
  • Averaged 30.5 points, 5.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in a 1-1 week for Binghamton.
  • Shot 54 percent (22-of-41) from the field.
  • Scored 39 points and dished out six assists to lead Binghamton a win over UMass Lowell on Wednesday.
  • This is Sessom’s second #AEHoops Player of the Week honor of the season and his career (11/25).
Rookie of the Week
Moses Flowers, Hartford – Fr., Guard, Dorchester, Mass.
  • Averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week for Hartford.
  • Had 15 points and six boards in Hartford’s comeback win over Binghamton on Saturday.
  • This is Flowers’ league-best fourth #AEHoops Rookie of the Week honor of the season (12/9, 1/6, 2/3).
