UAlbany, UMass Lowell Lead After First Day of #AETF Indoor Championships

BOSTON – Eleven finals kicked off the opening day of the 2020 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships, seven of which were field events. A jump-off in the pole vault helped ignite the meet and the distance medley relays capped off day one in exciting fashion as expected.
 
The second and final day will begin at 10 a.m. with the men’s heptathlon, women’s high jump, women’s shot put and men’s triple jump. Opening ceremonies can be streamed live on AmericaEast.tv starting at 11:30 a.m. Visit #AETF Championship Central for more information.

Day 1 Highlights
  • It came down to a jump-off in the pole vault to decide the recipient of the first gold medal of the weekend. Binghamton sophomore Casey Gribbin retained his title, edging out Will Green of Maine after both cleared 14’11”.
  • Terrel Davis was the first to etch his name in the record books, jumping 25’2” in the long jump to claim his third gold medal in four years.
  • UAlbany claimed all three spots on the podium in the women’s weight throw led by sophomore Ludith Campos’s gold medal throw of 60’7.25”.
  • EJ Onah defended her title in the long jump, besting last year’s mark with a jump of 19’11”.
  • Elizabeth Lodge became the first Hartford Hawk to win the pentathlon with 3479 points.
  • Mallory Prelewicz repeated as champion in the women's pole vault and became the fourth consecutive Bearcat to win the event, matching her mark of 11’11.75” from a year ago.
  • New Hampshire senior Zachary Astle won his first career weight throw championship at 63’9.5”. Astle has won the shot put two consecutive years and will defend his title Saturday at 1 p.m.
  • Binghamton won the final women’s race of the day in a close finish. With a time of 11:41.67 the Bearcats won their first ever distance medley relay at the conference meet.
  • The Stony Brook men's DMR team captured gold with a time of 9:52.53, marking the first time since 2007 the Seawolves won the race.
