UNH, NJIT Begin Conference Play, Split #AEHoops Weekly Awards

BOSTON – As the calendar flipped to December, conference play in America East women’s basketball began. New Hampshire hosted NJIT in the first of the newly implemented weekend series. NJIT won the opening game on Saturday, its first conference win in any sport as a member of the league. New Hampshire battled back on Sunday to split the series as Kelsey Hogan earned her first win as head coach of the Wildcats.
 
Binghamton and UMass Lowell began their 2020-21 campaigns last week. UAlbany and Maine are scheduled to get their seasons underway with non-conference action on Thursday. All season long, #AEHoops games will air on ESPN+. View the full schedule
 
Here are this week’s women’s basketball awards:
 
Player of the Week
Amanda Torres, New Hampshire – Sr., Guard, Hudson, N.H.
  • Averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in the opening conference series.
  • Torres led the Wildcats with 20 points while also adding a career-high seven rebounds to give UNH its first league win of the season.
  • This is her first career #AEHoops Player of the Week award.
 
Rookie of the Week
Lyzi Litwinko, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Berlin, Conn.
  • Averaged 6.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in two conference games, making 50 percent of her three-point shots.
  • Litwinko scored 11 points, notching four rebounds and three assists in NJIT’s first #AEHoops conference game – a 78-57 win over New Hampshire.
  • This is her first career #AEHoops weekly award.
