BOSTON – Two women’s basketball programs began their 2020-21 seasons last week in impressive fashion. Maine is now 2-0 after beating Providence and Rhode Island on the road. Blanca Millan returned to the floor and made an immediate impact in the season-opening win against Providence. UAlbany also beat a Big East opponent, topping Seton Hall Sunday by a score of 71-66.
Full-fledged conference play is scheduled for this weekend with three series on Saturday-Sunday as UMBC hosts UAlbany, Vermont welcomes UMass Lowell and Stony Brook plays host to Binghamton. Player of the Week
Blanca Millan, Maine – Sr., Guard, Santiago de Compostela, Spain
- Averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two wins for Maine.
- Saw her first game action in over a year, scoring 30 points and grabbing a career-high 14 rebounds to give the Black Bears a season-opening win against Providence.
- This is her first #AEHoops Player of the Week award this season and ninth of her career.
Rookie of the Week
Lyzi Litwinko, NJIT – Fr., Guard, Berlin, Conn.
- Averaged 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in a pair of games for the Highlanders.
- Litwinko shot 42 percent on the week and matched her career-high with 11 points on Saturday.
- This is her second consecutive Rookie of the Week award.
