BOSTON – The 2020-21 basketball season opened up on the eve of Thanksgiving and four women's #AEHoops teams have since kicked off their seasons. Stony Brook and New Hampshire each played a pair of games including one against a Power-5 opponent. UMBC and NJIT also hit the hardwood for the first time.
Conference play is scheduled to begin this weekend with New Hampshire hosting NJIT in the opening series on Saturday and Sunday. All season long, #AEHoops games will air on ESPN+. View the full schedule
Here are the first women’s basketball awards of the season:
Player of the Week
Asiah Dingle, Stony Brook – Jr., Guard, Boston
- Averaged 15.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in Stony Brook’s first two games of the year.
- Dingle opened her career in Seawolves red with 22 points on 66 percent shooting against Fordham.
- This is her first career #AEHoops weekly award.
Rookie of the Week
Alexia Nelson, UMBC – Fr., Guard, Brooklyn
- Made her first collegiate start, playing 34 minutes against Morgan State.
- Nelson scored six points while leading the Retrievers with a team-high five assists.
- This is her first career #AEHoops weekly award.
