BOSTON – Looking to build off of the success of its first-ever esports event earlier this year, America East will host its second Esports Invitational in partnership with Mainline in November. With significant prizes at stake for competitors, the event will take place virtually on Nov. 7-8.

Students from all 10 America East member institutions will square off virtually for prizes in a SuperSmash Bros. Ultimate tournament. The two-day event will feature qualifying play on Saturday, Nov. 7 with the top eight players qualifying for the playoff bracket, a single-elimination battle on Sunday, Nov. 8.  All eight matches on Sunday will be broadcast and streamed live. Registration is now open.
“As participation in esports continues to grow on our campuses, we are excited to host our second major esports event next month,” said America East Commissioner, Amy Huchthausen. “This event will offer students an opportunity to engage with one another during a time when those opportunities are more scarce and reinforces the conference’s commitment to innovation and student engagement through esports.”

Players will compete for over $2,500 in scholarship money with the tournament champion receiving $1,500. The runner up will earn $500 while third place garners $300 and fourth place takes home $200. The remaining quarterfinalists will earn America East swag prize packs.

Mainline specializes in running esports events in all aspects via their white-label esports tournament platform and remote broadcast capabilities.

America East’s esports venture continues the league’s commitment to innovation, emerging technologies and student engagement. The first America East Esports Invitational was held on April 24 and featured over 50 students from member institutions participating.
