Vermont-Stony Brook Feb. 20 Battle Selected to Air on ESPNU
Vermont and Stony Brook, currently two of the top teams in the men’s #AEHoops standings, will next meet on Feb. 20 on Long Island and that matchup will air on ESPNU, the conference office was informed by ESPN on Thursday. Tip time will be 7 p.m. from Island Federal Arena.
The two winningest teams in America East over the last decade, Vermont and Stony Brook have combined to win three of the last four conference titles.
The game will carry significant weight in the race for #AEPlayoffs seeding. Stony Brook (14-8, 5-2 AE) dealt Vermont (16-6, 6-1 AE) its only conference loss on Jan. 8 beating the Catamounts, 81-77 in Burlington.
The matchup features two of the top defensive teams in the conference and the country. The Catamounts are fifth nationally in scoring defense, allowing only 58.5 points per game while the Seawolves average 5.0 blocks per game, which ranks in the top 20 in the nation.
Two of the conference’s top talents will also be on display in reigning #AEHoops Player of the Year Anthony Lamb and All-Conference standout Elijah Olaniyi. Lamb averages 16.2 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while Olaniyi is contributing 19.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 2.2 apg.
This will mark the 13th-consecutive year that a men’s #AEHoops regular-season game will air on ESPNU. Stony Brook will be holding its SpreadRespect night as part of the gameday festivities. Both teams will wear special shooting shirts and help bring awareness to promoting equality and safety for all coaches, student-athletes and fans without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity.
