Binghamton's Schaffer Runs Fastest Mile Time in Country, Secures #AETF Week #3 Award

BOSTON – As the 2019-20 indoor track and field season resumed this past weekend, a trio of teams competed in the Great Dane Classic, where Binghamton junior Dan Schaffer ran the nation's fastest mile time of the season. A pair of second-place finishes at the Dartmouth Relays were secured by New Hampshire’s women’s team and Vermont’s men. The women of Stony Brook also finished second while competing in the Robert Elkin Invitational.
 
Here are the conference's week #3 award winners of the 2019-20 season:

#AETF Weekly Award Winners – Jan. 14
Female Track Performer of the Week
Kaley Richards, UMass Lowell – Sr., Distance, Lowell, Mass.
  • Finished second in the 1,000-meter run at the Beantown Challenge.
  • Her time of 2:53.64 ranks first in America East.
  • Richards has been awarded Performer of the Week for the first time since her 2018-19 indoor campaign.
 
Male Track Performer of the Week
Dan Schaffer, Binghamton – Jr., Distance, Endwell, N.Y.
  • Ran the fastest mile time in the country this season at the Great Dane Classic.
  • Schaffer was close to cracking four minutes with his time of 4:01.51.
  • This is his first #AETF weekly honor of the season after earning one such honor last season.
 
Female Field Performer of the Week
Danielle Poublon, UMass Lowell – Sr., Jumps, Nashua, N.H.
  • Cleared 5’7.25” in the high jump, placing second at the Beantown Challenge.
  • Poublon now leads the conference in the event.
  • This is the first time she has been named Performer of the Week.
 
Male Field Performer of the Week
Jack Fitzgerald, Binghamton – Sr., Jumps, Ballston Spa, N.Y.
  • Won the high jump at the Great Dane Invitational.
  • His winning mark of 7’1.75 ranks sixth nationally.
  • This is Fitzgerald’s first Performer of the Week nod of the season and second in the past two years.
